At last, we plunge into the main story!!
Zilkhstan has begun to operate in secret, beneath the veneer of a peaceful world...

YUPITO
Good morning,
Lord Shalio!
SFX
<motorized whir>
SHALIO
'Morning indeed, Yupito.
WOMAN (Nadira)
...Honestly.

NADIRA
When will you ever learn?!
You're far too familiar with His Majesty!
SHALIO
It's fine, Nadira.
Just part of what makes Yupito Yupito.
SFX
<whirrr>
NADIRA
<sigh>
SFX
>rumble>

SFX
>rumble>
YUPITO
So, off to the Development Bureau again today?
SHALIO
Yes.
To make adjustments the Nagid Shu Mane.
YUPITO
Oh, I thought it was already finishe...?
SHALIO
Well, it's a machine, isn't it?
They can always be improved by adjusting their programming.
YUPITO
Whoa...
SHALIO
<heh>

SHALIO
You're familiar with Suzaku Kururugi, aren't you?
YUPITO
Suzaku Kururugi...
He was the Villainous Emperor's knight...
SHALIO
That's right.
His greatest and most terrible knight.
If only I could acquire that strength, I could really make some improvements.1

SHALIO
To the Nagid Shu Mane,
and myself...
SFX
<whirrrr>

SHAMNA
(Our attempts so far might have been unsuccessful,
but now that we've perfected this new Aram2 Gate,
I should just need to make full use of this power I possess...)

WOMAN
Lady Shamna.
SHAMNA
Begin, please.
SFX
<sustained high-pitched noise>
SHAMNA
(Then I'll be able to rewrite history itself...)

SHAMNA
(Yes...)
(Yes... yes!)

SFX
<suddenly!>
SHAMNA
!!
SFX
<screech>
SHAMNA
(Damn...!)

SHAMNA
(I do still need her, after all.)
(A blood relative of his3...)
(Nunnally.)

<TO BE CONTINUED in PART 3>
1 I'm entirely guilty here of switching up Shalio's language so that I didn't have to write 'strength' and 'strong' four times here, but yeah Shalio just used the same word over and over. He wants to make the Nagid Shu Mane / himself stronger, he wants to take Suzaku's strength because Suzaku was the strongest knight ever, and he's sure that having that strength would make him stronger. ↩
2 While I deliberately avoided making a guess about "Yupito's" name (Yupit? Jupit?), this one is pretty clear. FWIW, "Arameic" in Japanese is アラム語, or 'the language of Aram'.↩
3 こやつ is familiar and therefore potentially rude, but not gendered at all, so I'm making an (educated) guess here. With all the significant men Nunnally is related to (Charles, V.V., Lelouch), we're probably not talking about Marianne.↩

(Anonymous) 2020-11-30 09:36 am (UTC)(link)I didn't really understand the second part (aram- arameic) of translation note 2. Could you please explain that.
Also, in TN 3, I think maybe she's refering to Charles because in the movie she does mention how Nunnally's wavelength is very close to Charles' and apparently it was Charles' leftover desires what was messing up the cs' world.

2.) I'm not quite sure which part of it you're asking about — either way, it's just an observation. アラム(の門) is written the same way as アラム語, the Japanese way of writing Aramaic, the language of Aram, and I don't think that's a coincidence, especially given that Zilkhistan is vaguely middle-eastern. (If it's supposed to be "near" Pakistan and India, it's actually just to the east of what we consider "the middle east" in our world, but CG's alternate history also means that lines of distinction like that might not fall in the same place anyway, and that's even before we get into "Sunrise might've just made a mistake".)
Really, I'm just trying to explain why I eschewed the spelling the wikia used ("Aramu Gate"), even though I imagine it comes from official subtitles. It's entirely possible that I'm wrong to do so, even if I'm right about the intent behind the name (D.Gray-man's author once explained that yes, her character was 'inspired by' Aleister Crowley, but he isn't the same person, so his name is spelled Arystar Krory) (or, hey, Ledo/Redo from Lancelot & Guren has had his name spelled two different official ways now), but barring an official explanation of the spelling from Sunrise I'm fairly confident about this connection, and sticking with this spelling for now. 😃
3.) Well, I'm not arguing with you, because I believe you that that's what the character says in the movie, but that is truly ridiculous. 😂 Good job, Sunrise. (I've now edited the TN to be more what I meant the first time — that is, 'he' is the stronger bet for a genderless pronoun in this scene — but I hope folks will scroll down and see your comment. 😃)
