NARRATION
Once...
...there was a boy named Lelouch.
Volume 3, Now On Sale!

NARRATION
As the son of an emperor who was convinced that might made right and evolution came only through conflict, death and strategy were old friends.
NARRATION
First came the sudden death of his mother—
An assassination that also stole his beloved little sister's sight and her ability to walk.

NARRATION
Then the siblings were sent to the Far East nation of "Nippon" as hostages...
But it was there that the boy would first encounter Suzaku Kururugi, his soon-to-be lifelong friend.

NARRATION
A moment's peace.
Until what happiness he'd found was shattered when his homeland invaded.

NARRATION
Invaded violently and mercilessly, even though his father knew they were there...
Perhaps the boy had needed hatred, after that. Just to stay warm.
But as the days and months went by, the twin fires of hatred and rebellion burned only more brightly within him.

NARRATION
And then, in one fateful moment, the boy was granted the Power of Kings.
An extraordinary power that could force any person to follow any single command.
The power of geass!

NARRATION
And once he had this power, the boy started a global rebellion — all to create a world where his little sister, who longed for peace, would be able to live in comfort and safety.
But the world — and fate — are cruel.
The more the boy strove for peace, the more hatred seemed to flourish.
Was it really so unforgivable, that one little wish?
LELOUCH
Suzaku.
LELOUCH
You must kill me, just as you promised.
SUZAKU
Isn't there...
...some other way?

LELOUCH
All the world's hatred is now focused on me, just as we planned.
The final step is to break that chain of hatred... by getting rid of me.
LELOUCH
The legend of Zero and his Black Knights won't stop here. Even Schneizel will follow 'Zero'.
And the world will finally be able to come together and talk to one another, now that we've eliminated all military power.

LELOUCH
They'll finally be ready for the dawn of a new day.
SUZAKU
And that...
LELOUCH
Yes.
SUZAKU
...is the Zero Requiem.

LELOUCH
Did I... not make it...?1

LELOUCH
And after all of that...
Is this what they mean by prison of the soul2?
LELOUCH
No. This is just another result of my actions...

LELOUCH
Another part of my... punishment.

LELOUCH
Suzaku...
I forced you to carry on as Zero —
the hero who took down the treacherous Emperor Lelouch...
LELOUCH
I stole the life you would have lived as Kururugi Suzaku away from you,
and left you with the responsibility of that mantle in its place.
Compared with that, something as minor as eternity... hardly seems significant.

LELOUCH
Suzaku...
Nunnally...
LELOUCH
The world's proceeding along the right course, isn't it?

VOICE
Lelouch...

VOICE
Lelouch...
LELOUCH
<1>!

LELOUCH
Is that...
...what I'm doing here...?

LELOUCH
Well, I haven't forgotten just yet.
And until then3...

1 Lelouch's Japanese is technically vague, just as I've translated it, but the implication is something like, "Was I not able to cross over?"↩
2 Lelouch is likely referring to the Neo-Plantonic concept, where flesh is the prison of the soul.↩
3 This seems deliberately ambiguous. Lelouch's purpose and his reason for returning to the land of the living could be either the Re;surrection or the Miraculous Birthday special that capstoned the original anime.↩
4 The language here is the same way you'd announce the start of a new television or sports season, but more metaphorically is also used for theater curtains coming up.↩

But it's totally possible we will wind up with, essentially, a third timeline -- one that tries to incorporate the original show, the spin-off manga, and the Re;surrection movie. :) And that could be a lot of fun!

And I don't know. It's always possible, especially once Re; and Lelouch the Private Tutor are over, but I think I would work more on the novels first...
