[TRANSLATED] CODE GEASS: Lelouch of the Rebellion Re; (Chapter 14)

Original Scans: courtesy of Comic NewType

LELOUCH
(Ours is a world...
...born from a long and bloody history.)

LELOUCH
(The final link in a chain we've forged of ever-more compounded hatred.)

LELOUCH
(So we will use what strength we have to create a world...)

LELOUCH
(...where our differences can be resolved through dialogue rather than blood.)

LELOUCH
(That is the purpose of the Zero Requiem.)

LELOUCH
(By now, Sayoko will be in the process of releasing those executives of the United Federation of Nations that we had taken hostage.)

LELOUCH
(And Suzaku, too, should be settling things fairly soon.)

LELOUCH
(Schneizel, formerly our most significant obstacle, has been neutralized via geass.)
(All that remains is to acquire the Damocles's key...)

NUNNALLY
That's you...
...isn't it, Big Brother.

LELOUCH
Nunnally...

A heartbreaking reunion.1 The only one still standing in his way is his dearest little sister...

CODE GEASS
Lelouch of the Rebellion Re;

Original Story:
based on "Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion"

NUNNALLY
Have you come for this? The Damocles key...?

LELOUCH
Yes.
That's a dangerous thing, you know.
You really shouldn't...

NUNNALLY
But that's why.

LELOUCH
!

NUNNALLY
Why I can no longer...

SFX
<with effort—>

NUNNALLY
...avert my eyes.

SFX
<flare>

LELOUCH
!!

LELOUCH
(She broke his2 geass?)
(Through sheer willpower?!)

LELOUCH
(That strength of will...)
(...is hardly common.)

NUNNALLY
Will you use your geass on me as well?

LELOUCH
(So that's how it is. This is who I'm being confronted by: a Nunnally who already knows everything.)

NUNNALLY
For the first time in eight3 years, I can see your face, Brother.
And it's the face of a murderer, isn't it?
Well, I suppose we're the same in that regard.

LELOUCH
!

LELOUCH
Then... all those warheads... you were the one who...?

NUNNALLY
Yes.
I knew I had to stop you,
Brother.

NUNNALLY
Even if it meant bringing about your death.
And that's why I cannot let you
take the key to the Damocles.

NUNNALLY
Even... even if — you use your geass on me...!

LELOUCH
(!)
(On you?)

LELOUCH
(True, I must have wished for this countless times.)
(That I could — at the very, very least — give you back your sight...)

LELOUCH
(However, it also made you, crucially, the only person I was never...
...able to use the Power of the King, my Absolute Obedience geass, against.)
(But even now...)

LELOUCH
(No, I can't!)
(If I were to go that far, violating even Nunnally's will...)
(I...!)

NUNNALLY
You have no right to rule the world.
Not after all the people you've crushed beneath your heel while calling yourself Zero.

LELOUCH
And I suppose you would have rather spent the rest of our lives in hiding?
Was living in fear of assassination really the future you dreamed of?
All of this has been for your future

NUNNALLY
And when did I ask you for any of that?!
All I ever wanted — was to be with you, Brother.

LELOUCH
But the reality is that then we'll always be at the mercy of forces beyond our control!
Resistance is necessary.

NUNNALLY
Indeed,
resisting that sort of control might be human nature.

LELOUCH
True.
However, an entire world of people cannot all do whatever they please.

NUNNALLY
I suppose you're going to say that's why you use geass?
That's despicable.

NUNNALLY
Geass violates people's hearts and minds, crushes their dignity underfoot.

LELOUCH
And what of the Damocles?
Is a system which enforces their obedience somehow not 'despicable'?

NUNNALLY
The Damocles will become a symbol of hatred.

LELOUCH
!

NUNNALLY
Everyone's hatred will be focused here...
And that way, they will all be ready for the dawn of a new day.

LELOUCH
(So that's it, Nunnally?
You've also realized...)

LELOUCH
(...In that case—)

LELOUCH
Lelouch vi Britannia commands you...!

LELOUCH
Give me
the Damocles key!

SFX
<shrill whooshing>

SFX
<smooth movement—>

NUNNALLY
!

SFX
<grab>

NUNNALLY
No!
<clench>
No, I mustn't!
I can't let you—

NUNNALLY
...commit any — more...5

NUNNALLY
<relax...>
...

NUNNALLY
Go on then,
Brother.

SFX
<clack>

SFX
<click, clack>

LELOUCH
Nunnally.
You're already, undeniably, living your life on your own terms.4

LELOUCH
And that's exactly why...
I know I can see this through.

LELOUCH
(Thank you.)
(I love you so much,
Nunnally.)

NUNNALLY
!

LELOUCH
<smirk>

NUNNALLY
You really did it! You used your geass on me!

SFX
&let;click, clack, click>

NUNNALLY
I order you to stop!

SFX
<mechanical whir>

NUNNALLY
Stop!

SFX
<clack>

NUNNALLY
Please—

SFX
<clatter>

NUNNALLY
!

SFX
<crash>

SFX
<click, clack>

NUNNALLY
...

NUNNALLY
You're a monster, Brother.

NUNNALLY
A despicable...
Despicable...

NUNNALLY
How could you?!

LELOUCH
(This is fine.)

LELOUCH
(Ours is a world
born from a long and bloody history.)

LELOUCH
(The final link
in a chain we've forged of ever-more compounded hatred.)

LELOUCH
(And if we are to use what strength we have
to create a world where our differences can be resolved through dialogue rather than blood...)
(...it will be necessary to break that chain.)
(And now that this weapon which has taken so many lives is finally under my control...)

LELOUCH
Lelouch vi Britannia commands you!
Yield, O world, to me!

LELOUCH
(Now all the world's hatred will be focused on
Lelouch vi Britannia, the treacherous emperor.)

LELOUCH
(And all that's left to do is...)

1 悲しい/哀しい/etc. can be written with several kanji; this one denotes the sort of grief one feels after someone's death. (That it terminates in き rather than い is an antiquated form, in the modern era mainly reserved for poetry.)
2 Charles's name here with furigana to denote that it's being "pronounced" あいつ, a not-particularly-polite third-person pronoun.
3 I know I'm yelling into a void and that no one at Sunrise can hear me, but Marianne's death and Nunnally's staged accident were in 2009, and we're now in 2018, so. It's really been nine years, not eight.
4 Bandai of America's original translation rendered this as something like 'you're already so independent', and I agree that that is sort of where Lelouch is going with this thought; but it's not quite there in the text. What is there, instead, is the notion that Nunnally has clearly begun to live her life in accordance with her own thoughts, feelings, and values... and she's doing a bang-up job of it, better than most people. (Perhaps better than Lelouch himself.)
5 罪 is crime/atrocity/sin — though personally I try to avoid the last one, as very little of the Japanese population is Christian, and that's almost never going to be the intent.
