Young Lelouch and Suzaku Discuss Their Futures

—This is a conversation from long, long ago.

"Hey, Lelouch. Any idea what you wanna be when you grow up?"

"...As always, your foolishness knows no bounds. I'm a Britannian prince. What I'll be when I grow up is still a Britannian prince."

"Is that really a job?"

"What...? Well, no, it's not quite a job..."

"So, you're saying you'd be unemployed?"

"You rude little... Anyway, what about you, Suzaku? Do you have any aspirations?"

"Huh? Me? ...I guess I've thought about becoming a soldier like Toudou-sensei1, but..."

"But?"

"I might wanna be a barber or something instead. I like playing with people's hair and stuff."

"...You realize I'm not going to let you cut Nunnally's hair."

"Even if I'd do a better job?"

"Besides, you'd be failing to utilize your talents. In your case, all you have to work with is your otherwise-useless physical strength."

"...Are you trying to tick me off?"

"If you like, I could even make you my knight."

"No way. That thing where you pledge eternal loyalty? Sorry, but I don't wanna be your underling."

At that, the black-haired boy fell silent.

Then broke into a smile of absolute contentment.

"What're you smiling at?"

"Heheh... No, you're completely right. I won't make you my knight."

"Didn't I literally just say I wouldn't do it?"

"Yeah. A knight isn't a friend. So that eliminates you."

"...Nunnally's hair is getting a little long again, don't you think?"

"Didn't I say you aren't allowed?"

"Come on, just a little."

Yes, this conversation really did happen long ago...
