rainfall: A girl stands in the midst of fallen leaves. You can't see her face. ([hiyori] contemptuous)
Ah, that's right; Chapter -103.

I will not be joining the people now enthusiastically 'shipping Kensei and Mashiro. Sorry. I still kind of feel like he thinks she's retarded, and even though he has now maybe -- sort of?! -- looked at her cleavage, I'm going to quote Buffy's Xander on this and say, "No offense, but when a guy does that, it just means his eyes are open."

I mean, everything about her grates on him! )

...Seriously, if I wanted hot hatesex, I'd pair Hiyori and Mayuri faster. I find her impotent rage at him (and especially his refusal to behave like her subordinate) hilarious. Lookit the little vein popping in her forehead, aww. But I don't really like hatesex in my active 'ships, thanks. :\

Okay. A quickie update:

Moved in, a month and a half ago. Started school. Still working. Currently doing a floor set, which is slightly awesome, but almost always exhausting. I would much rather do mannequins in tiny bursts rather than for four straight days -- by the end of it I'm always being kind of lazy in a desperate attempt to get it all done on time.

Finished Tales of the Abyss. Started playing Tales of Symphonia. Started over again in an attempt to get the Zelos ending, even though we haven't quite finished our first game.

Started up a lovely creepy Bleach RPG: [livejournal.com profile] k_a_r_a_k_u_r_a Which is essentially Bleach + the ubiquitous vengeful ghost + freaky "stuck in time" setting. Like Bleach meets Fatal Frame by way of a dark alley in Silent Hill. Everyone should go app, even though every new person means yet more work for me. X3

May have SECRETLY started up ANOTHER game for ANOTHER fandom. A secret fandom.

But in the meantime: a rant.

Ichigo/Rukia vs. Ichigo/Orihime: Fight fight! )

My posit: Ichigo is head-over-heels for Orihime. He just doesn't know it yet. He hasn't really thought about his feelings, and he is still convinced that he likes Orihime only as much as he likes any of his other friends. But he is wrong, obviously wrong, and later chapters will probably tend towards this.

Anyone who honestly believes anything else... well, I don't think they're really paying attention.

It will not break me if Ichigo/Orihime doesn't wind up being canon, though. I try not to get desperately attached to any 'ship being canon, or really any event happening, because that can only lead to disappointment.

And for what it's worth? I didn't really see Ichigo/Orihime as being credible until just recently.

So full of spoilers, from Series 1-3 + Torchwood.

Also, should be working on my research paper, but I've got half my quizzes for Friday done, so I'm not doing so terribly really. Tomorrow will also be for schoolwork.

So, here's some babble on the love of the Doctor's life.

A Rose, by any other name~ )

Annnnd, back to work!
rainfall: A girl stands in the midst of fallen leaves. You can't see her face. ([hiyori] contemptuous)
Okay, I know that we're all used to anime characters having unrealistic proportions. I know there's a temptation to assume that the weights we're given by manga artists aren't "real".

I know we all want to think Kira is built, because he never tops in fic as it is, and he hardly needs to be skinny and "weak" too. But the fact of the matter is that Kira is underweight.

The evidence. You really can't argue, Kira fans. )

In fact, just about the only guy who doesn't outweigh Kira is Hanatarou, and does that really need explanation?
rainfall: A girl stands in the midst of fallen leaves. You can't see her face. ([hitsugaya] brimming with tiny confidenc)
Hi, hello. Yes, I'm talking to you. Here are some things it would be totally awesome if you'd stop doing:

a.) Telling me that "despite all evidence to the contrary, Ichigo liked it when Rukia was a huge bitch to him." Do you see the first part of your sentence? Do you even know how annoying that is? Stop being lazy. Tell me WHY all evidence is to the contrary and yet it's still true, don't just stammer about Ichigo "of course never admitting it". I'd take a scary BDSM fic over this. At least there Ichigo's a crazy masochist and has reason to enjoy being bitched out, even if his obviously-angry-and-confused retorts make it seem like if they're playing a game he doesn't know the rules.

And the rest are spoilers lalala~ )

Whew. That feels better.
rainfall: A girl stands in the midst of fallen leaves. You can't see her face. ([rukia] masterpiece)
Okay, this is probably a wee bit hypocritical. But here I present to you:

A pairing rant worth reading

The only way to make this any clearer would be by including Rukia-style illustrations. Omg, that would be so dorky and awesome. )

I can't provide links or even the comm name for the last two, because [livejournal.com profile] kay_willow won't let me see them. :( But now I'm in the mood to read terribly-explained "this is why I love this pairing" rants. Anyone got any recs? ;)
rainfall: A girl stands in the midst of fallen leaves. You can't see her face. ([hitsugaya] brimming with tiny confidenc)
Dear Fandom,

A number of you seem to be extremely confused as to whether or not your pairing is "canon" -- or even canonically-plausible. I'm in a helpful mood, so here's a litmus test for you! Pencils in hand, you've got ten minutes.

Canon Litmus Test For Your OTP )
rainfall: A girl stands in the midst of fallen leaves. You can't see her face. ([kairi/selphie] maybe it's destiny)
Dear Fandom,

I know we're all proud of our access to Japanese-English dictionaries, but please, stop "translating" things with your Babelfish bookmark. The keychain that Sora receives from Roxas at Memory's Skyscraper is not Acrossing Two or Two Across. Not only are these names incoherent and meaningless, they are also patently inaccurate.

The name in Japanese is "Meguriau Futari", and I should emphasize at this moment that Roxas's epithet, "The Key of Destiny", was "Meguriau no Kagi". Same kanji, same word. Same meaning.

Anyone with a proper dictionary (i.e., Jim Breen, or the like) should also shut up about Meguriau not meaning Destiny. Yes, I realize that the literal translation of the phrase is "to meet by chance". You, however, are not paying attention to the cultural context. Meguriau is not, as I have seen it described, like finding a ten dollar bill on the ground. It is something fated -- a one-in-a-million chance encounter, one with huge consequences even though it seems innocuous at the time.

(If you're a Sailor Moon fan, "meguriau" is used in its theme song to describe Mamoru and Usagi's reuniting in their current life. We are, in other words, talking about something so fortunate that it can't just be coincidental -- it must be destiny.)

This is why professional translators gave us "The Key of Destiny", and why Roxas's keyblade should be "Destined Encounter". (It could also be "Fated", but I'm a big fan of keeping translations consistent, to allow Roxas's keychain to parallel his epithet in English the way that it does in Japanese.)

No love,

Please stop taking "two" as the number. When written as it is in the game, futari is two people, not two random things, and not the number two. (So yes, the longer name would be, "Destined Encounter of Two People", but if we translated everything literally, Sora would have gotten a "Desire Lamp" keychain from Agrabah, and gamers everywhere would be staring at it in their inventories uncertainly, afraid to equip it. Destined Encounter is a good middle ground between "sounds nice" and "means something coherent", so I don't want to hear any more whining about how you "like the way Acrossing Two" sounds. Acrossing isn't even a word.)
rainfall: A girl stands in the midst of fallen leaves. You can't see her face. ([heartless] feel the hunger)
Dear KH Fandom,

Stop putting lyrics to Sanctuary/Passion on icons of Kairi. That song isn't about her. Nomura himself has said that the image behind Passion is the reunion between Sora and Riku. Use lyrics from Simple and Clean/Hikari, which IS about Kairi.

Or, better yet, come up with text of your own! There's at least fifty icons of Kairi for every word of all four of those songs already, and if you have to make yet another icon of her standing on the beach staring out to sea from that exact same angle, at least put new text on it.

Stop putting "angels in flight" on icons, period. It's insipid background garbage that has nothing to do with the rest of the song.
rainfall: A girl stands in the midst of fallen leaves. You can't see her face. ([larxene] toying with you)
Our games arrived today, and so began The Great Playing. We are currently at the beginning to the Monstro board (in our case, Floor Six), and so far...

Well. Let's just say I really, really don't know how anyone can still pair Axel and Larxene at this point.

Things I've noticed so far... )

Controversial: that thing about Axel/Larxene )
rainfall: A girl stands in the midst of fallen leaves. You can't see her face. ([axel] the number eight)
So, I was in Digimon. Where the first-series characters would all be half the height of the second-series characters because there was a massive change in art style. I know the temptation to think that the changes between KHI!Sora and KHII!Sora are all because of Nomura's changes as an artist. And it's true, there are some stylistic changes.

But it looks like he stands by his proportions, and, as anyone familiar with the interviews knows, fourteen-year-old!Sora's hair color SHOULD be dark brown in the opening movie for KHII. )

Basically what this boils down to is: Nomura did not abruptly decide to draw fourteen-year-olds really tall. He deliberately kept Sora's KHI appearance for the CoM remake. Riku is on steroids or something because this means he really WAS supposed to be that much more muscular than Sora at fifteen. And Roxas has clearly aged since his birth.

Because otherwise? He would be the height of the fourteen-year-old Sora on his left.

This should shut people up, but it won't. (Some people seem to think Roxas was BORN at fifteen, but I'm mainly thinking here of the people who insist he's fourteen. At all times. Despite evidence to the contrary. And why doesn't NAMINE count? She's plainly older, she was overlaid on Kairi's fourteen-year-old image in CoM, and now she's KHII!Kairi's height. That should really settle it right there.)

Still. Eeeeee. Final Mix is going to be so full of shinies.
rainfall: A girl stands in the midst of fallen leaves. You can't see her face. (Default)
Beware all ye who enter here: I might complain about a pairing you like. Trust me, it's not the pairing I'm complaining about. It's the idiotic way it's being presented.

Pairings keep fallin' on my head... )

As a side-note: What's up with het. fans thinking the pairings they like have no value if it isn't canon? Hayner/Olette is a perfectly reasonable pairing, but sites like this one admit that the two are only friends in this positively miserable tone. And, of course, Harry/Hermione fans all but committed mass suicide upon the release of the sixth book. The aforementioned Roxas/Olette shrine is overflowing with "BUT LOOK AT THE WAY THE CAMERA LINGERS ON OLETTE BEING CONCERNED FOR ROXAS, YOU KNOW IT TO BE TRUE". And Larxene/Axel people...boy the anger you'll hear if you mention that it's slightly not canon. The rationales they have for why Axel would've killed her border on psychotic.

And now it's three a.m., and there is much work to be done tomorrow.
rainfall: A girl stands in the midst of fallen leaves. You can't see her face. ([axel] if you leave now...)
So, [livejournal.com profile] khfanficrants. That pretty much says everything that needs to be said, doesn't it?

There was a poster; as an aside to a rant about things she dislikes in fanfic, she mentioned, like it was part of her personal bio, that she dislikes yaoi. (God, I feel silly using that word; I haven't called it yaoi in a year or so now. It's slash~.) Fine, okay, whatever. Then someone replies with a mildly-amusing "Only you can prevent yaoi!" icon, and she feels the need to share this. thing. she drew.

The text, with smily chibis, read: "Friends don't let friends bone each other in the ass." (Anyone remember in the fifth Harry Potter book, the teacher whose voice was described as being like "poisonous honey?" There is no better definition for that term than hatespeech done with chibis. And it's not even FUNNY, it's just rude and full of bitterness. And apparently brought to us by F.A.G.S. -- "Fans Against Gay Smut.")

The community has since then exploded; many people tried, more politely than I, to point out that her posting something like that in a community filled with slash fans had not been especially wise. Her reaction? "Why are you guys being so mean to me, I respect your like of yaoi, why can't you respect my hate?? D:" Because love and hate are equally-valid emotions that should be encouraged across the board!

Then someone commented to say,

Why is it that anti-yaoi people are rather tolerant of yaoi-fans who are anti-het, but yaoi-fans go absolutely koo-koo nuts when someone says they're anti-yaoi?

And I hope I worded that right. :x

This is my response. )
rainfall: A girl stands in the midst of fallen leaves. You can't see her face. ([riku] i tire of your illiteracy)
They're not the only ones. )

What's really awesome, of course, is that all of this is prefaced by a statement on the main site reading:

KHU Gallery offers over 1500 pieces of high quality Fan-Art, 90 user-made Comics, 230 different Desktop Wallpapers and nearly 600 screencaps of KH-related videos to navigate through and generally admire. All of this is put together by some of the best creative artists in the Kingdom Hearts community.

The huge range of Fan-Art illustrates not only the creative diversity of our visitors, but gives the Kingdom Hearts series more depth as a whole through the variety of ways that each piece of fan-art can be analysed and interpreted. Each month we also run a fantastic contest in which our visitors can win a range of Kingdom Hearts merchandise from our Shop.

That's got to be the most pompous way I've ever heard anyone say "We have fanart." And given the quality of that piece and the analysis and interpretation that followed -- well, I'm just a bit dubious of the claim, let's say.

Bah. Enough mocking fools. It's late. ♥
